Frequently Asked Questions
How often should solar panels be cleaned?
It is recommended to clean solar panels at least twice a year to optimize efficiency and savings. However, according to NRG Clean Power, this recommendation can vary based on location and orientation of your array.
What is the cost?
For Commercial:
Depending on soiling, location, and other conditions, the cost ranges from $.70 to $2.50 per meter squared (approximately every 10.7 feet). Estimate given upon site visit.
How long does cleaning take?
A conservative estimate is 1-3 days per MW depending on conditions.
What is the process for commerical?
First, we assess the physical site and conduct a comprehensive visual inspection of the array. Assuming there are no visibly damaged panels or other concerns, we draft a proposal and a contract. Upon signing, we schedule a start date and begin.
We clean panels at the ideal times – early morning and evening – for maximum effectiveness and panel protection. Taking before and after photos during the course of the job is also a part of the process, and we create a custom inspection/servicing report too.
What happens if Sol Shine accidently damages something?
You’re in good hands. We are fully insured for up to $1 million in damages. Our certificate of insurance is available upon request.
Doesn’t the rain clean my solar panels?
No. Rainwater can leave mineral deposits that make panel debris worse over time. Studies found that properly cleaned panels had a 36% increase in output over an eight-month period.
Does Sol Shine USA use chemicals?
No. Unless there is a very specific debris which requires more than brushes and reverse osmosis water can handle, like concrete dust, paint, or some other material that is notoriously difficult to remove.
Do you service the entire United States?
We can service customers' needs outside of our region. Please call or message us to discuss logistics.
Will the SolarCleano robot damage my panels?
No. Solar panels are designed to accept a load of up to 0.78 psi (5400 Pa.). The robot exerts a maximum 0.60 psi (4200 Pa.), which is well within safety limits. Furthermore, the robot has rubber pads mounted on the tracks allowing for movement without vibration or the possibility of leaving scratches on the panels.
Do I need any utility connections at the work site?
A standard water hose connection is enough. Sol Shine USA will bring a water pump and hoses to perform the job. If needed, water trucking can be provided by Sol Shine as well. We do not require electricity or any other utility because our SolarCleano robot is battery powered.
